Starkey: Michalek Deserves Shot On Power Play
By Joe Starkey
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) -- Hey, everything else has failed. Why not try Zbynek Michalek on the power play?
Penguins coach Dan Bylsma did just that Monday at practice. I asked Bylsma why. He said because Michalek can shoot. Period. Makes sense to me.
It's not like adding Ray Bourque or Sergei Gonchar -- or even Alex Goligoski -- to the Penguins' miserable power play, but this team can no longer afford to have a player (Paul Martin) on the point who cannot shoot. Michalek, taking one-time passes from Kris Letang, didn't look a bit out of place at practice. For a power play that has gone something like three for its past 3,000, that's good enough for me.
The "Z" man deserves shot.
