CLAIRTON (KDKA) — Multiple sources tell KDKA-TV that a police officer was shot in Clairton.

KDKA-TV’s David Highfield reports the officer was responding to a robbery call when the shooting happened in 800-block of Miller Avenue.

Emergency officials received the call about 10:45 p.m. on Monday.

KDKA-TV’s Ralph Iannotti has learned the officer, who works part-time, was shot in the chest. He was wearing a bulletproof vest.

Allegheny County Homicide detectives are at the scene. Authorities have established a six-block perimeter around the scene.

K-9 units from neighboring communities have been called in to help with the investigation.

A medical helicopter was called for the officer, but he was taken away by ambulance.
