Slide Closes Part Of Rt. 65 In Glenfield Borough

GLENFIELD BOROUGH (KDKA) — A rock slide is causing some major traffic problems along Route 65 in Glenfield Borough this afternoon.

According to officials with PennDOT, the northbound lanes of Route 65 – Ohio River Boulevard – remain closed about one-quarter mile north of the Interstate 79 interchange.

PennDOT says the slide happened in the northbound lanes and crews were called to the scene to clean-up the mess that it left behind.

Officials say they are bringing in a crane to remove the rock that is causing the concerns.

The northbound lanes are expected to remain closed through the duration of the project, which they hope to finish in time for Monday afternoon’s rush hour.

The southbound side of Route 65 has been reopened to traffic. There could be intermittent closures, but only if necessary

PennDOT says drivers traveling in the area should expect delays. Traffic is being detoured using I-79 south to northbound Route 51 to the Sewickley Bridge.

I’m just waiting for the whole mountainside to come down one day and really cause a problem. Route 65 is the worse road in Western Pa, and I have to drive it daily!

Penn dot will take 5 days to take care of a rock. This is what the Japanese can do in 6. http://www.autoblog.com/2011/03/24/japanese-repair-quake-ravaged-road-in-just-six-days/

It was awfully nice of Penndot to put up detour signs. When I went through, they detoured NORTHBOUND 65 to SOUTHBOUND 79. No mention to get off at Neville Island exit. This makes sense, right? To go north, I have to go south???

  6. James Harrison says:

The detour on 51 through Coraopolis and over the Sewickley Bridge is bumper to bumper and hardly moving. The light at the bridge is only about 30 seconds. A LOT OF PEOPLE WERE LATE THIS MORNING. Penn DOT needs to contact police to keep this detour flowing now!!

  7. K says:

they forget to tell people about taking blackburn road as a detour…why?? I was an hour late for work on thursday taking the rt 51 detour.
