Business Catches Fire In Squirrel Hill

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Officials are assessing the damage after fire broke out at a business in Squirrel Hill Thursday morning.

Authorities say they believe the blaze started in the front of the Levin Sleep Shop business located along Forbes Avenue. The fire damaged three businesses

According to an official with the arson squad, the cause appears to be electrical in nature and likely started in a neon sign at the front of the building.

"It's just the first 12 feet of the building is basically all that's fire damaged," added Battalion Chief Keith Bradley, of the Pittsburgh Fire Department. "The rest is all smoke damaged, throughout the whole building."

The blaze also caused some smoke damage to the Bangkok Balcony restaurant, which is on the second floor of the building, above the store.

"I saw the smoke pouring out of Levin Furniture and the whole frontage of the store was gone and they cut a hole in the side of our building to let the smoke out," said Ilene Nareedokmai, the owner of the restaurant.

Officials reopened Forbes Avenue, and were cleaning the sidewalk along that area this afternoon.
