Simmons Selects Another College

Pittsburgh (KDKA)- McKeesport blue-chip defensive tackle Delvon Simmons has selected his new college football team after getting released from his previous commitment to North Carolina.

Simmons announced today that he'll be playing college football for Texas Tech.

Simmons was ranked as a four-star player and the No. 5 defensive tackle in the country according to Rivals.com. Scout.com had Simmons rated as a five-star player.

Simmons had signed with North Carolina in February but asked for a release from the letter after North Carolina defensive line coach Brian Baker left to become an assistant with the Dallas Cowboys.

Simmons is the 3rd player from the WPIAL to sign with Texas Tech this recruiting year (McKeesport's Brandon Jackson and Clairton's Desimon Green).

Pitt's Todd Graham was trying to convince Simmons to sign with Pitt but wasn't successful.

It's believed that Simmons should be able to step in and immediately contribute to Tech's D-line rotation.
