2 Children Found Wandering In Lawrenceville

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Two little children have been taken into protective custody today after they were reportedly found wandering by themselves in a Lawrenceville park.

Authorities say the 4-year-old boy and 3-year-old girl were two blocks away from home and had to cross a busy roadway to get to the park near the Boy's Club on Butler Street.

KDKA's Bob Allen reports from the scene that a milk delivery driver found the children. The girl was only wearing a diaper and one shoe.

Officials say the children apparently went out the back door of their home on 45th Street, crossed Butler Street and then walked to the park. The boy was able to tell police his address.

When police went to the home, officials say they found the mother and father passed out inside. They were arrested and will reportedly face charges of endangering the welfare of children.

Also, authorities say the conditions inside the home were found to be filthy with little to no food in the refrigerator.

Police will hand the children over to Children, Youth and Family Services.

Stay with KDKA for more on this developing story.
