Winds Cause Power Outages Across Area

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The gusty winds have kept power crews working all weekend to restore service.

At the height of the severe weather, 28,000 homes were without power. But late Sunday night, just about 800 homes and businesses were still without power.

The hardest hit area was Westmoreland County where less than 300 customers were still in the dark Sunday night. West Penn Power said they expected to restore service to most customers by midnight.

Also, there is one school closing on Monday because of the power outages. Sloan Elementary School in the Franklin Regional School District in Murrysville will be closed.

Officials say the teachers should still report.
