Officer Injured In Westmoreland County Crash

NEW KENSINGTON (KDKA) --- A local police officer was injured in a crash while he was on patrol.

The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. on Route 780 in New Kensington. According to investigators, 22-year-old Jessica Blanford, the driver of the car that hit him, is suspected of drinking.

Lower Burrell Police Officer Ted Meixelsberger was headed to a 911 call at a bar when his SUV was hit head-on. Police say Blanford was coming from a bar when the crash happened. It's not known if the officer was heading to the same bar.

"She was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh where blood was drawn and pending results, charges will be filed," State Police Corporal Michael Young said.

Blanford was listed in serious condition at last report. Meixelsberger was taken to the hospital, but is now back home with his family.
