CLAIRTON (KDKA) — The mother of the remaining suspect in the shooting of Clairton Police Officer James Kuzak is angry because charges have now been dropped against two other men, but not her son.
Charges were withdrawn first against 21-year-old Myles Hutchinson of McKeesport, and then on Thursday, the district attorney dropped charges against 19-year-old Travis Evans after his alibi checked out.
The mother of 18-year-old Marcus Andrejco said charges should be dropped against her son, too. She said her son was with her at the time of the home invasion, which led to the shooting.
“We all watched ‘Dancing with the Stars,’” said Jamie Andrejco. “They were in between the kitchen and here on the computer rapping, making music.”
Allegheny County Police said that Andrejco confessed to being one of the men at the home in Clairton, but his family said he was tired and hungry when police questioned him.
“It was bogus. It was made up, because he’s a scared young man who’s never been involved in nothing like that,” said his mother.
The female victim in the home invasion identified Andrejco as the man who started to rape her but was interrupted by police. A charge of attempted rape was added to the other charges Andrejco faces, including criminal attempted homicide.
His mother, however, claims it doesn’t add up.
“I’ve met one woman, one young lady, he’s brought home. He’s not big with the girls to be sexually assaulting someone? That’s not my son!”
Jamie Andrejco wonders why police haven’t questioned her to check her son’s alibi.
“Marcus is picked up. His alibi ain’t checked. We’re just sending him to jail. We’re doing what we want with him and that’s insane.”
The female victim testified in court Thursday that it was not Andrejco, but another gunman, who actually shot Officer Kuzak.
Andrejco’s attorney also said the identification of her client is in question because the victim has also identified the men who are no longer facing charges.
