Online Photo Draws Ire Of Gun Supporters

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A photo of a cook at Primanti's has led to online message board postings urging NRA Convention attendees to avoid eating at the restaurant.

"We were completely caught off-guard. Went on the Internet and looked at the pictures and saw the comments and thought, 'We've got to respond to these questions,'" Primanti's Operations Director Marc Teklinski said.

One of the pictures in question shows a cook at the Strip District Primanti's wearing a T-shirt furnished by Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

It showed up on the pro-gun blog "Snowflakes In Hell" which, in turn, posted it and told attendees at this weekend's NRA convention to think twice about eating there.

One commenter said, "Ouch, if we get this word out enough, that will hurt!"

The sandwiches are always a Pittsburgh must-have and it was a stop for NRA-endorsed presidential candidate Sen. John McCain in 2008.

Primanti's said the attention is unexpected, but it wants to get something out to the attendees of the convention and anyone who comes into town in the future: They're not in the business of pushing agendas, they're in the business of pushing something else.

"We're just there to make sandwiches and have fun," Teklinski said.
