Alleged Portersville Bank Robber Charged

PORTERSVILLE (KDKA) -- A suspected bank robber tackled by Good Samaritans is now behind bars.

Chris Stanford, 34, is in the Butler County Jail on bank robbery charges.

State police say Stanford held up the First National Bank in Portersville on Route 19.

He was chased down and tackled by a group of four men and subdued until state police arrived.

Police say he was armed with a gun in his pocket, but no shots were fired during the heist.

He ran down the street holding cash in his hands when he was tackled a few blocks from the bank.

One of the Good Samaritans, who had a license to carry a gun, pulled it out on Stanford. He froze and they took him to the ground.

It's the second time this year the bank has been robbed.

Stanford is in jail on $300,000 straight cash bond.
