Some Steelers Fans Worried After 1st Round Of NFL Draft

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Despite all the issues over the lockout, the NFL Draft continues and the Steelers picked up Cameron Heyward in the first round.

Heyward, a defensive end, was introduced to the media at Pittsburgh Steelers headquarters on the South Side today.

The team is confident they got the right player, but some fans think they may have ignored other problem areas.

When the Steelers selected Heyward, head coach Mike Tomlin said the defensive end is an A plus in character and can do it all on the field.

"I trust who they drafted because I trust the organization. They have a track record of getting who they need," said one man.

"Everyone is getting old, Aaron Smith, Keisel, Chris Hoke, we need a good lineman," added another fan.

Heyward has close local ties to Pittsburgh. He is the son of the late Craig "Ironhead" Heyward, a standout running back at Pitt and in the NFL. Also, his mother is from the area and he was born in Pittsburgh.

"His dad was a great player at the University of Pittsburgh, I'm glad we got him," said one fan.

But not all Steelers fans are satisfied with the first round pick. The Steelers may need defensive line help, but they have other more glaring weaknesses.

"We need corners, that's my feeling," added one concerned fan.

"I was actually hoping that Prince Amukamara would fall later on in the draft, but of course he didn't" said another fan.

Rounds two through seven of the draft will continue today through Saturday.
