Retired State Trooper To Stand Trial

CANONSBURG (KDKA) — A retired Pennsylvania State Trooper accused of trying to meet a fictitious 13-year-old girl in Canonsburg for sex will stand trial.

Undercover agents arrested 61-year-old Lawrence McElroy of Venango County.

Agents say he sent sexually explicit messages and made three calls to the girl from a number registered to Franklin Area High School where he was a substitute school teacher last month.

Authorities say McElroy made numerous sexual references and even exposed himself on a webcam.

According to the criminal complaint, McElroy asked the agent posing as a teenage girl for her address, saying he would wait until her mother was not at home.

He also told her: “You will not be a virgin when I leave.”

They agreed to meet in a parking lot in Canonsburg where authorities arrested him.

McElroy was a 20-year veteran of the Pennsylvania State Police.
