PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Still haven’t come up with any Mother’s Day plans? If it’s money that’s holding you back there’s some good news.
There are plenty of inexpensive things you can do to honor mom this weekend, some of them are even free.
You don’t need to splurge on expensive clothes or jewelry for that special lady in your life this Mother’s Day, but you can still make it special.
“You can spend all weekend doing these things with your mom, and if you plan it right, spend very, very little money,” said Heather Walsh, of LivingPittsburgh.com
Walsh and her partner Rachel Booth run the website, which offers up a guide to free and inexpensive events happening throughout the city.
Their website shows you tons of free and inexpensive events happening throughout the city.
“There’s the May Market going on at Phipps Conservatory, which is a big outdoor event. Phipps Conservatory is also offering half off admission during market hours ,” said Walsh. “Also moms get free admission to the zoo this weekend and there’s lots of Pirates’ games discounts on Sunday.”
But those are just a few ideas. There’s also the Lawrenceville Blossom Tour.
“A lot of the markets and businesses in Lawrenceville’s business district on Butler Street are [going to] be open giving away free seed packets,” said Booth. “[It would] be a nice little stroll to take mom. All of it’s free.”
On Mother’s Day, moms can receive a free tour of the mansion at Hartwood Acres, but only if she’s accompanied by a paying family member.
Also, the Hollywood Theater in Dormont is reopening and you can catch free flicks all weekend long.
But if you’re looking for something edgier, the Living Pittsburgh girls have another option.
“We have something to if your mom likes wine,” said Walsh. “There’s [going to] be live music and free wine tasting and affordable wine at La Casa Narcisi Winery.”
