Tractor-Trailer Crash Causes Backups On Turnpike

NEW STANTON (KDKA) — A tractor-trailer crash tied up traffic this morning between the New Stanton and Donegal interchanges on the Turnpike.

The accident happened before 5 a.m. and shut down the eastbound side of the road around mile marker 89 for part of the morning.

Around 7 a.m., traffic started getting by on just the shoulder of the road. It created about six to seven miles of backups in that area.

Traffic was able to detour through Route 119 southbound to Route 31 to get back over toward the Donegal interchange.

Stay with KDKA for the latest details.

Gee, I wonder if someone was going too fast? Maybe they need to start pulling over the speeding trucks instead of letting them go…

I was driving the turnpike approx. 4:20 Am, I noticed something black in the road. I swerved to the shoulder of the road & quickly back to the left. My sister got thrown around like a rag doll & believe she has whiplash, then I pulled off at Donegal exit 91 and called 911. I told the officer there was a overturned tractor trailer & there were no flares or anything & the truck driver may be injured. Also to help prevent anyone from hitting the tractor trailer. Somehow I got through on the shoulder before 7AM.
We travel this road frequently and many times trucks are driving in excess of 80 Miles per hour. THIS HAS TO END BECAUSE WE ALMOST DIED.
Don’t know if this driver was speeding,
BUT, ANY TRUCK, DRIVING AT THIS SPEED IS A DEADLY WEAPON ON WHEELS AND THESE TRUCK DRIVERS SHOULD RESPECT THAT OR DON’T GET BEHIND THE WHEEL. VERY SHAKEN UP AND UPSET 19 HOURS LATER.
