Tiki Barber To The Steelers?

Pittsburgh (KDKA)- The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the market for a 3rd down back. Could the answer be former NY Giant Tiki Barber?

Ever since coming out of retirement, people have been trying to link the Steelers with Barber.

The New York Post is keeping that speculation alive.

Paul Schwartz of the Post is reporting that Barber's most likely destination will be the Steelers or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Reason for those two teams are the head coaches, Mike Tomlin and Raheem Morris. Barber reportedly has strong ties to both coaches.

Barber tells Schwartz, "I'll be somewhere where I know the people, know the staff. It will be a team that needs some veteran leadership or just needs a little push or needs somebody they can count on to fit a role."

The description of that second team sounds alot like the Steelers.

No NFL team can officially talk with Barber or any other free agent until the lockout ends.

The 36-year-old Barber retired from the NFL in 2007. He played 10 seasons, all for the NY Giants, finishing his career as the franchise's all-time leading rusher.

Mewelde Moore has been the Steelers 3rd down back for the last three seasons but he's an unrestricted free agent.

Last season, Moore caught 26 passes, averaging 7.9 yards per catch.
