Dog Burned, Abandoned In Mercer County

MERCER (KDKA) -- Two people are facing charges after humane officers say a dog was chemically burned and abandoned in Mercer County.

Shannon Clarke, 34, allegedly locked the injured mixed-breed dog in the basement and abandoned it.

Raelynne Van Tassel, 23, is also facing animal abuse charges.

It's not clear how the dog got out of the basement, but police reportedly found him wandering the streets of Sharon with open wounds and lacerations.

According to the Mercer County Humane Society, the dog renamed Chance was missing 50 percent of his hair and skin.

Chance is now under the care of Hermitage Veterinary Hospital.
