OSHA Probes Adams Twp. Roof Collapse

ADAMS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- OSHA investigators went to the scene of a partial roof collapse that injured three men in Adams Township.

The building under construction is supposed to become an indoor sports facility with batting cages.

The roof trusses fell in a domino effect, pinning two workers and a man visiting the site under tons of wood.

"Each truss weighs 712 pounds according to the manufacturer," Adams Area Fire Chief Al Minjock said.

According to the contractor, one of the injured men had to have his spleen removed. Another has a broken hip and a third has cuts and bruises. It could have been worse.

"It could have been fatal easily," Minjock. "It was dangerous for the rescuers, it was dangerous for the workers, but we're happy with the way it turned out in general."

Large trusses can be unstable in the early stages of construction. Wind is not thought to be at fault.

OSHA's investigation will probably look at whether the trusses were properly secured.
