171st Air Refueling Wing Returns

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - There was a big homecoming celebration at the 171st Air Refueling Wing Sunday as 50 members of the Air National Guard returned home from overseas.

The guardsmen have been deployed since the end of March.

They were part of the group that helped enforce the no-fly zone over Libya.

"It's an incredible feeling to welcome our folks home," said Vice Wing Commander Col. Steven Painter. "It's pretty cool that we get to welcome them from the ramp. It's nice knowing that just a few yards away are the family members."

The air refueling wing was also called up last summer to support "Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Also, Lt.  Christopher Preffer dropped by Black and Gold Sunday to talk about the return of 171st Air Refueling Wing.
