Suspect Takes Stand In ‘Greensburg 6 Trial’
GREENSBURG (KDKA) – The defense began arguing its case in the murder trial of Angela Marinucci Tuesday morning.
She is one of six people charged in the torture and murder of Jennifer Daugherty.
The 18-year-old sobbed while on the witness stand as she described watching co-defendant Melvin Knight walking out of the bathroom with a bloody knife.
She said just prior to that, she heard Knight and Ricky Smyrnes talking to Jennifer Daugherty in the bathroom, asking her why she wouldn’t die yet.
Marinucci says she was afraid to step in and do something because she feared the same thing would happen to her.
She also told jurors about the so-called “family meetings,” saying that all five of her co-defendants voted to kill Jennifer Daugherty while she stayed silent.
She said she thought there was another way to handle the situation.
Marinucci went on to point fingers at her co-defendants, describing how Smyrnes, Knight and Amber Meidinger tortured Daugherty by hitting her with a towel bar, a metal crutch and forcing her to drink concoctions.
Marinucci did admit to hitting Daugherty on several occasions, saying that the victim made fun of her family; however, she claims she did not participate in any of the torture.
Marinucci will be back on the stand Wednesday for cross examination.
