CINCINATTI (KDKA/AP) — The Pirates swept their road series against Cincinnati, beating them 5-3 Thursday afternoon.

The Pirates arrived in town with a six-game losing streak and came away with their first series sweep in Cincinnati since 2003.
They did it with pitching – Charlie Morton threw a five-hitter for a 5-0 win in the opener.

James McDonald (3-3, 5.51 ERA) pitched 6 and 2-3 innings, allowing just one run and seven hits. He also threw four strikeouts.

Joel Hanrahan earned the save.

The Pirates finally broke through against Johnny Cueto (2-1), who had won his last seven decisions against them. Ryan Doumit added a solo homer.

The Pirates are second in the majors – behind only Tampa for the most road wins.
