Search Efforts Continue For Missing Kayaker At Ohiopyle

OHIOPYLE (KDKA) -- The search continued Sunday for a missing kayaker at Ohiopyle State Park in Fayette County.

Rescue workers say two boaters illegally entered the lower Youghiogheny River near the Stewarton Rapids on Saturday.

A park official says the water in that area is above seven feet.

One of the kayakers was able to get to safety, but the other, a 31-year-old man from Acme, was swept downriver.

"We will continue the search as long as we can, weather-dependent and light-dependent, and we're going to utilize every asset that we can to help find this missing kayaker," said James Juran, the Ohiopyle State Park operations manager.

Park officials, state police and volunteers conducted a search for the man on Sunday. A helicopter also searched from the air.
