Will Giants Have Interest In Ryan Doumit?

Pittsburgh (KDKA)- The San Francisco Giants will likely be without catcher Buster Posey for the rest of the season. Will they call Pirates GM Neal Huntington about Ryan Doumit?

Posey is expected to be out six to eight weeks or longer after suffering a broken fibula and severely strained ligaments in his left ankle. The 2010 Rookie of the Year underwent three MRIs on Thursday to determine the extent of the injury.

Posey will have surgery to repair ligaments on both sides of his ankles and may insert a screw into his ankle to help set the bone. The team expects Posey to have surgery within a week. Groeschner would not give a timetable for Posey's return, but did say he would be "out for a while."

The Giants are the defending champions and are currently leading the NL West. So, the Giants are in need of a catcher.

The Pirates have been trying to deal Doumit since spring training but haven't found a taker.

The fact that Doumit is having a good season will help the Pirates efforts to deal him. Currently, Doumit is hitting .272, 4 HR and 15 RBI despite only having 92 at-bats.

Early reports say that the Giants have made early inquires about Washington's Ivan Rodriguez.

Backup Eli Whiteside will be Posey's immediate replacement.

I'd suspect the Giants will address this situation very soon.
