Sidney Crosby Concussion Update

By: Mike Vukovcan

Pittsburgh (KDKA)- Pens GM Ray Shero has an update on Pens captain Sidney Crosby and names 2 free agents that won’t be returning to the Penguins next season.

Shero tells Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Crosby is expected to be re-evaluated by concussion specialist Michael Collins in the next week or so.

Crosby is back in Pittsburgh after having been on vacation in Europe.

Crosby needs full clearance from a doctor before he’s permitted to begin his offseason workout program.

Shero also told Anderson that forwards Alexei Kovalev and Mike Comrie won’t be returning to the Penguins next season.

Shero said it’s possible that Comrie might retire.

As far as the other free agents, “We’re not close to anything with anybody at this point”, Shero said.

Pens unrestricted free agents include: Max Talbot, Pascal Dupuis, Mike Rupp, Craig Adams, Arron Asham, Eric Godard, Chris Conner and Nick Johnson. Winger Tyler Kennedy is the teams biggest restricted free agent.

NHL free agency begins on July 1st.

I was just wondering about Crosby last night, but I had hoped an update would include more information than just “he is to be re-evaluated.”

  2. John says:

That’s not an update on his concussion….great reporting.

  3. Jason Long says:

He’s needed full clearance before being able to participate in any on or off the ice activities since January???

I hear no clarity in this update

  4. Charles says:

    That wasn’t an update!

  5. Scott Hartnell says:

Wow that was an impressive report. Looks like Pittsburgh’s reporters are the best in the country. Sorry folks, Crosby will not be back until at least 2012-2013 from what I have heard. How’s that for an update!?

  6. Don says:

    Trade him now!

  7. WTAE is better says:

Great reporting knuckleheads! Please go and find another job you can’t do. Maybe that’s why your sports segments are only 2 minutes and your lousy weather men/women are 10 minutes. And they can go with you too. They predicted rain all week, only sprinkled one day! What a bunch of morons

  8. Steve says:

“Crosby is expected to be re-evaluated…” That’s an evaluation schedule update — not a concussion update.

  9. FixPGH says:

Typical crack reporting by KDKA, Better not talk too much feces on KDKA or they will remove and close out the commenting on this

Headline might have been a bit inaccurate but just because you don’t like the news don’t shoot the messenger.

    1. Jumbo says:

      You think???

  13. Bringbackbillburns says:

This is what news is today. Lots of hype and teasers to con people into watching. We know all your games KDKA, WTAE, WPXI. The viewers are not as stupid as you think. Thank god for real news on the net.

  14. Jason says:

hey don your crazy why in the hell would they trade away the best player in the nhl. even if he were to be out till 12-13 that would be the biggest mistake in pittsburgh sports history.

  15. jeffery says:

trade him while toy can still get something for him, he will never be the same player

    1. kevin says:

      i agree

  16. mark says:

trade him, the pens were tied for 3rd overall in the nhl without him, 8.5 million plus the money becoming available with free agents, quit thinking with your hearts and use your mind….he will never be mario….

Another example of what journalism has become, shoddy filler in between commercials.
