Pirate Roster Move

Since being hired, Pirates manager Clint Hurdle has stated that he prefers to have two left-handed pitchers in the bullpen.

Today, GM Neal Huntington granted Hurdle his wish.

The team recalled left-hander Tony Watson from Class AAA Indianapolis and designated Jose Ascanio for assignment.

With Joe Beimel on the disabled list, Daniel Moskos was the only left-hander available for Hurdle.

Watson had a 2.45 ERA in 29 1/3 innings for the Indians. He made 22 appearances and struck out 29, allowing 11 walks.

Ascanio had a 7.11 ERA and allowed five runs in 6 1/3 innings.

Watson was drafted by the Pirates in the ninth round of the 2007 draft.
