PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) — Andrew McCutchen’s home run in the 12th inning lifted the Pirates above the Arizona Diamondbacks, 3-2.
The win puts the Bucs (30-30) at .500 in June for the first time in nearly six years.
Paul Maholm (3.39 ERA) allowed just one hit over six innings and struck out four at PNC Park Wednesday night.
Arizona’s Zach Duke pitched seven innings and allowed nine hits and one run.
The Pirates took a 1-run lead in the third. The Diamondbacks tied it in the eighth when Stephen Drew got an RBI single.
Both teams scored in the tenth inning.
McCutchen slammed Zach Kroenke’s slider into left field for the winning run in the bottom of the 12th.
Daniel McCutchen (2-1) worked out of jams in both the 11th and 12th to earn the win in a game in which each team blew a save in the late innings
