UNIONTOWN (KDKA) — A man from Westmoreland County has died after authorities say his motorcycle slammed into a tree Friday evening in Fayette County.

State police in Uniontown have identified the victim as 32-year-old James Sterner of Ruffs Dale.

According to state police, Sterner was heading west on his Kawasaki motorcycle on Indian Head Road near Rocky Ridge Road in Saltlick Township around 8:50 p.m.

The crash happened when the motorcycle went onto an embankment and then hit into the tree, state police said.

Sterner was taken to Excela Frick Hospital where he later died of his injuries.
