1 Injured In Crash On Homestead Grays Bridge

HOMESTEAD (KDKA) – One person was injured in an early Wednesday morning accident on the Homestead Grays Bridge.

According to police, a motorcycle collided with a Dodge pickup truck around 1:24 a.m.

The motorcycle rider was reportedly racing with another motorcycle at a high rate of speed when the accident occurred.

"When they came to the bridge, one of my officers was in the Wallgreens parking lot and heard the bikes accelerate at a high rate. The next thing you know, there's an accident," Homestead Police Chief Jeff DiSimone said.

The bridge was closed for about three hours as police conducted their investigation.

"The truck was [heading] outbound toward the city. The motorcycle came up and struck it from the rear causing the truck to spin out. When the truck spun out, it [rotated 180 degrees]," Chief DiSimone said.

The motorcyclist has been identified as Gregory Venay, 31, of East Liberty. He suffered extensive leg injuries and a lacerated liver in the crash.

Accprding to police, Venay was also driving on a suspended license, had temporary plates on the motorcycle and has an extensive criminal record.
