PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — As the final casting call for extras wrapped up on Sunday in downtown Pittsburgh, there are new details on the filming of the next “Batman” movie here in Pittsburgh.
They came from both near and far, all for a chance to be part of one of the most high-profile movies to ever film in Pittsburgh.
“I’m trying to get on film. This is really nice,” said Rob Kocak, a potential extra.
Thousands answered a casting call this weekend for “The Dark Knight Rises,” matching the crowd at the Omni William Penn Hotel last weekend. Casting coordinators say the turnout has been amazing.
“Very surprising to be honest with you,” said Tammy Smith, of Smith & Webster-Davis Casting. “This weekend has matched last weekend.”
Extras are needed to play prisoners, police officers, businessmen as well as sports fans.
So, Jennifer Brill came to the casting call prepared with her Terrible Towel.
“They said they were looking for sports fans,” said Brill.
Casting coordinators say local filming for “The Dark Knight Rises” will begin on July 28, and run through August 21. That means, for three and a half weeks, Pittsburgh will be playing the role of Gotham City.
All this excitement comes nearly a year before any of us will see “The Dark Knight Rises” on the big screen. The scheduled release date is July 20, 2012.
