Mercer Named Player Of The Week

Pittsburgh (KDKA)- Here's a trivia question for you. Name the last successful shortstop that's been developed thru the Pirates minor league system? I'm going to have to look that up because I don't have the answer.

Maybe the Altoona Curve's Jordy Mercer will be that guy.

Today, Mercer was named the Eastern League's Player of the Week for the week ending June 19th.

Mercer batted .381 with three doubles, two home runs and six RBIs in six games last week for the Curve.

Mercer leads the league with 48 RBI and his 13 home runs lead the team and are tied for fourth-most in the league.

Since May 1st, he is batting .319 (54-for-169) with nine home runs and 38 RBI in 46 games.

The Pirate drafted Mercer in the 3rd round of the 2008 MLB Draft.
