Cranberry Twp. Police Offer Reward For Information In Copper Theft

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Police and First Energy are offering a $1,000 reward for information in a copper theft that caused a power outage for 4,000 customers.

Investigators say someone broke into the Penn Power substation along Route 19 at about 4 a.m. Wednesday by cutting the fence and then cut the  grounding cables to the equipment.

Police say the cables carry a current and would have caused a small explosion or flash when the equipment failed, so it's possible the person responsible may have suffered burns.

Cranberry Township police ask anyone with information to call 724-776-5180.
