The Pittsburgh Pirates have designated catcher Dusty Brown for assignment.

To take Brown’s place on the 25-man and 40-man roster, the Pirates have selected the contract of catcher Eric Fryer from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Fryer hit .262 (17-for-65) with four doubles, one triple, two home runs and nine RBI in 21 games this season with Triple-A Indianapolis. He began the year with Double-A Altoona, where he hit .345 (39-for-113) with four doubles, two triples, five home runs and 16 RBI in 37 games prior his promotion to Triple-A on May 30.

Fryer will wear uniform #69 and be active for tonight’s game.
