DUQUESNE (KDKA) — Another suspicious fire in Duquesne early this morning has residents and officials on alert. “We’ve had roughly five to six fires that have all been suspicious in nature,” Duquesne Fire Lt. Craig Gibson told KDKA-TV.
The latest fire started around 2 a.m. in a vacant house along Friendship Avenue and flames quickly spread to an adjacent home.
Based on how fast the flames engulfed the building, Lt. Gibson said he suspects “some sort of accelerant was involved.”
The fire spread to an abandoned home next door that had already been gutted by another suspicious fire just a few weeks ago.
In fact, the Duquesne Fire Department has responded to a rash of possible arsons in the area within the last month.
The fires have neighbors like Tom Seigh understandably concerned. Flames have already destroyed two houses on his block; and this latest fire nearly spread to his home.
Though his home did not sustain any major damage, Seigh is worried that he or one of his neighbors won’t be so lucky the next time it happens. “It’s gotta stop.”
