PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — If you’ve filled up lately, you know gas prices are coming down. The local average is now $3.60 a gallon, down more than 20 cents in the past month.

The national average has dropped to $3.54, but we’re still paying nearly a dollar more a gallon than we were last year at this time.

The prices may be dropping, but how would you like to pay absolutely nothing for gas? No matter where you shop, some companies are now giving gas away; all you have to do is look.

Some drivers are loyal to stores like Giant Eagle and Shop ‘n Save thanks to gas perk programs, but what if you could save big without the card?

First, save the UPC codes off of 10 boxes of certain Kellogg’s cereals, and with the right rebate, you’ll pocket a $10 rebate – up to $50.

CVS stores are in on the act as well with a handful of different items for sale each week. Buy $30 worth (a CVS card is required), and you’ll get a $10 card, limit one per week.

Also, check your credit cards for special gas-back offers.

BP promises five percent cash back on gas prices with double rebates for the first two months.

Sheetz gives you points on its card – redeemable for gift cards down the road, and Giant Eagle offers a credit card through Citizens Bank that ties into its own FuelPerks program.

However, Federated Investors market strategist Linda Duessel says to make sure you do your homework first.

“If I am someone with a high credit rating and I have good practices, and I pay it off at the end of the month, then I want to look for those places where I would have gone shopping anyway, for example,” she said.

Keep in mind though; most of these promotions are limited time offers.
