Pirates Fans Excited Again

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The Bucs are back after an all too long slump.

Now being a Pirate fan is fun again, with the team being one game away from being in first place.

"That's exciting," Jack Mullen, of Key Largo, Fla., said. "Good for the city - it's terrific."

In years past, fans were used to no lines and just walking right into the stadium; however, this season it's looking a lot different.  Pirate fan Joe Gordon says "The last three years I've never stood in line; I usually just walk in and get my tickets and come out. This is quite a treat."

Pirates President Frank Coonelly says he's thrilled to see the fans satisfied with the team. "To see them embrace this young team and come out to the ballpark and have a lot of fun out here and really feel proud about being a Pittsburgh Pirate fan again," he said.

The Pirates' front office also must be thrilled that the phones are ringing off the wall.

"It's enjoyable to go to games now," Brian Bores, of Scott Township, said. "It's been 18 years. A whole generation of high school students never saw a winning team, so hopefully they can keep it up."
