Elderly Man, Cats Found In Deplorable Conditions In Carrick

CARRICK (KDKA) – Authorities say they found an elderly man and more than a dozen cats living in deplorable conditions when they were called to a home in Carrick on Friday.

KDKA’s Kym Gable reports that Pittsburgh police are investigating and say they may try to bring charges of neglect against the woman who they say let her elderly husband live in the home.

According to officials, neighbors complained about a strong odor coming from the house in the 2100-block of Hazeldell Street.

Humane agents say they found the residence to be infested with wild cats, insects, garbage, as well as animal and human feces. There was also no running water or heat.

Mary Turriziani and her 87-year-old husband, Alfred, live in the home. However, police say she leaves him there while she stays in Whitehall.

Humane officers carted three cats from the home, but left traps to catch the additional 15 inside.

Authorities say they want the house condemned. The Health Department and Department of Aging are also investigating.

If his wife left the house because of the conditions, she should’ve (perhaps she did…articles doesn’t say) sought counseling for him. It’s obvious he has issues.

That lady is crazy she had cats at her last place cost over $40,000 to repair damage replace everthing she Is known as the cat lady she still tries to feed the cats she left behind 2 years ago lock her up

Put the wife in that house, lock the doors & let her clean the mess up. Make that her place of domain and let her see how it feels. How dare you treat a human being like that especially one who is in firmed. She needs to be arrested, no maybe charges. I have one risking a catastrophe. I feel horrible for the husband but I also feel bad for the neighbors. The city needs to pass a law no more than 2 cats or dogs. I was all for the leash laws for cats because of idiots like her.

No more than 2 cats or dogs??? The city has a limit of 5, but it’s been already noted as unconstitutional. If they are well cared for, vetted appropriately, you can have more than 2! I’d like to see they require licenses for cats, dogs have had them for YEARS. Besides, unstable people like this will break the law regardless.
