John Perrotto Talks About Pirates Being National Story

PITTSBURGH (Sportsradio 93.7 The FAN) -  John Perrotto of Baseball Prospectus joined Seibel, Starkey, and Miller on Sportsradio 93.7 The FAN to talk about the Pirates' success being a national story rather than just a Pittsburgh interest.

Perrotto, who was in the 107 degree heat down in Arizona, talked about the three Pirate All-Stars getting bombarded by the media.  He said Andrew McCutchen, Joel Hanrahan, and Kevin Correia were asked questions about their success from multiple national media outlets.  Perrotto talked about Hanrahan being arguably the best closer in the league today and said it seems like it is the San Francisco Giants versus the American league in the All-Star match up considering some of the manager's decisions.

When asked about Neal Huntington, Perrotto said he felt like anyone stepping up to his position would need at least five years to develop the team to the success they have achieved thus far and would give him at least a one-year extension and perhaps a full three-year deal.

Perrotto ended the conversation talking about the positive momentum the Pirates are going to have entering the offseason.  He thinks the Pirates need to make a deal to sign McCutchen to a long-term deal, saying he has quickly become the face of this team.  In terms of Paul Maholm, Perrotto said he thinks that may be a tougher deal to reach, but that overall the Pirates are moving forward with their national success story.
