Infant Dies At Wilkinsburg Daycare Center

WILKINSBURG (KDKA) - Police are investigating the death of a baby at a local daycare.

The coroner confirmed overnight that baby was in the care of a home daycare on Singer Place in Wilkinsburg.

According to sources, an employee at the daycare fed 10-month-old, Desmire Williams and put him down for a nap. The employee checked on the child several times and noticed that he was in a deep sleep.

The child's mother was then contacted about his sleeping habits, which prompted the mother to go to the daycare center.

When she arrived, she found employees trying to resuscitate the child.

The mother called 911 because the daycare had not done so by the time she arrived.

Allegheny County Police are still waiting for the toxicology report, but the initial autopsy revealed no internal or external trauma.

"I'm sorry to hear the child died.  I don't know the circumstances, but it just breaks your heart," Marsha Smith, a neighbor, said.

No charges have been filed at this time.
