Pirates Fall To Reds, 3-1

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) - Two errors and silent bats contributed to the Pirates 3-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds.

Jeff Karstens (8-5, 2.28 ERA) allowed three runs and seven hits over seven innings Wednesday afternoon at PNC Park.

The Pirates (51-45) managed just five hits on Johnny Cueto (6-3). Andrew McCutchen drove in the Bucs' only run in the fourth.

Chase d'Arnaud made two critical errors. The first happened when he overthrew a ball to Lyle Overbay in the first. Then, he had a fielding miscue in the fifth.

Chris Heisey and Jay Bruce had two hits apiece for the Reds, who won for just the second time in nine games this season against the Pirates.

Cueto (6-3) struck out four and walked three to shave his ERA to 1.98. Francisco Cordero pitched the ninth to pick up his 19th save.
