Harrison Demoted, Bucs Roster Moves

Pittsburgh (KDKA)- As expected, the Pittsburgh Pirates made a couple of roster moves today.

Today the Pirates have signed free agent RHP Jason Grilli. The 34-year-old Grilli went 4-1 with three saves and a 1.93 ERA (32.2ip/26h/8r/7er/12bb/43so) in 28 relief appearances with Lehigh Valley (Phillies' AAA) this season.

He was signed by Philadelphia as a minor league free agent on 1/31/11 after missing the entire 2010 season following right knee surgery.

Grilli made his Major League debut with the Marlins in 2000 and has also pitched in the big leagues with the White Sox (2004), Tigers (2005-08), Rockies (2008-09) and Rangers (2009). In 238 career games (16 starts) in the Majors, he has gone 18-18 with two saves and a 4.74 ERA.

Grilli will wear uniform #39.

The club has also optioned infielders Pedro Ciriaco and Josh Harrison to Triple-A Indianapolis and transferred RHP Evan Meek to the 60-day DL (Meek's earliest reinstatement is August 7).

The Pirates will make corresponding roster moves tomorrow. The team is likely to recall both Ronny Cedeno and Steve Pearce to the majors.
