Train, Tractor-Trailer Collide In Braddock

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- One person was injured when a tractor-trailer and a CSX train collided in Braddock this afternoon.

The accident happened near the intersection of 11th and Washington Streets by the Edgar Thompson plant just after noon.

Officials told KDKA that the driver of the tractor-trailer was initially trapped in the wreckage; but he was freed and taken via ambulance to UPMC Mercy Hospital.

While there is no word on his identity or condition, authorities said he was alert and talking.

Police say the tractor-trailer had been stopped on the railroad tracks prior to the crash, but it's not clear why the driver was in the crossing.

KDKA-TV's Brenda Waters reported from the scene that the train was transporting military Humvees as well as other equipment.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. Officials will review footage from the train's onboard camera to determine what happened.
