Dejan Kovacevic Breaks Down Pirates, Upcoming Trade Deadline

PITTSBURGH (SportsRadio 93-7 The FAN) -- Dejan Kovacevic of the Tribune Review joined Seibel, Starkey and Miller on Sportsradio 93-7 The FAN to talk about the upcoming Pirates series against the Cardinals as well as the rapidly approaching trade deadline.

Dejan starts off saying the crowds should be great for this series, and cites what he calls the most tuned in crowd in PNC Park history last Monday.

Chase d'Arnaud is starting at third base tonight, and the guys ask Dejan why the shortstop of the future is learning on the fly at third base when Pedro Alvarez is stuck in the minors.  Dejan said d'Arnaud is not the shortstop of the future because he's not nearly good enough defensively, and is adamant that the Pirates are doing the right thing by Alvarez by keeping him in the minors and having him work on the things he needs to in order to be effective at the major league level.

Dejan added that Alvarez is a hot and cold hitter, he's either tearing the cover off the ball, or striking out too much, there really is no middle ground with him.  That being said, Dejan believes the Pirates don't see Pedro helping them right now at the major league level, adding yet another reason for him to stay in the minors.

We wrap things up with Dejan having him weigh in on a number of trade rumors out there, and how he sees the Pirates approaching the trade deadline.
