Roethlisberger Celebrates Wedding Day

OHIO TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - Wedding bells rang in Ohio Township Saturday afternoon as Ben Roethlisberger and Ashley Harlan tied the knot.

The ceremony was held at the Christ Church at Grove Farm at 3 p.m. and lasted about 45 minutes.

There were not many onlookers outside because of the church's location. However, about a dozen people from a family gathering set up a sign in their front yard.

They thought it would be fun to try and get some of the famous faces to give them a wave as they drove by.

"Just to see all the people passing by and hoping that they'll wave and say hi or something," Lizzy Weisner said. "A lot of people have waved and honked."

After the ceremony, the guests and bridal party made their way into downtown Pittsburgh for the reception at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

Roughly 500 guests had their choice of halibut or steak for dinner.

"Beautiful ceremony. Very elegant, very straightforward, very to the point. I couldn't be happier for Ben and Ashley and I wish them the best of luck," Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said.

Ravenstahl said the bride wore a beautiful white dress, but couldn't be more specific about the design and fashion of it.

"Certainly, I'm not the person to describe the dress. She looked stunning. A beautiful bride, that's the best I can say in terms of summarizing it. She looks great and Ben's a lucky man to have her," Ravenstahl said.

However, the reception was not decorated in black and gold.

"A lot of great lighting. Their colors are purple and pink and the bride looks wonderful. Ben looks great as well and I'm really excited to be here," Ravenstahl said.

Dan Rooney is in attendance and had to get special permission from the NFL because of the current lockout.

Plans for the couple's honeymoon are not known, but chances are it could be a quick one.

NFL players and owners are working toward a new collective bargaining agreement. If all goes well, training camp could open in the next week or so.
