Pittsburgh (KDKA)- Media and fans can stop asking for GM Neal Huntington to promote Pedro Alvarez to the big leagues.

The Pirates today announced that Alvarez is back in the big leagues.

Alvarez was recalled after the team placed outfielder Alex Presley on the 15-day disabled list with a left hand contusion, retroactive to July 23.

Presley hurt his thumb during batting practice before Saturday’s game.

Alvarez hit .365 (23-for-63) with three doubles, one triple, three home runs, and 13 RBI in 18 games for Indianapolis, which included time on a rehab assignment.

In his last 10 Triple-A games, Alvarez went 17-for-36 (.472 with a double, triple, three home runs, eight RBI, seven runs scored and a 1.353 OPS.

Alvarez is in Atlanta and will be in uniform for tonight’s game.

Alvarez began the season with the Pirates and hit .208 (26-for-125) with two home runs and 10 RBI in 36 games.
