HAMPTON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — It was quite a shock for people inside a bar in Hampton Township late Wednesday when an out-of-control car slammed into the building.
Police say the driver was pulling out of a nearby business onto Route 8, was even waved on by someone, but then was hit by a car driving south.
The driver who had been pulling out then lost control, plowed over a sign, went through a yard, crashed into the side of Jay’s Other Place and smashed into three cars in the parking lot.
One man who was inside the bar said it sounded like a bomb went off. The force of the impact bent the inside wall, cracked a countertop and reportedly knocked one man off of a chair.
People who were inside the bar ran outside and tried to assist the driver.
“We put cool rags on him to make sure he was all right and then the paramedics came and took him,” said Tina Bower.
Police said the driver’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
