MLB Network's Jim Kaat: Pirates In Tough Spot At Deadline
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- MLB Network analyst Jim Kaat joined the Vinnie and Cook show on Sportsradio 93-7 The Fan to discuss the Pirates' potential trade deadline moves.
Jim thinks the Pirates are in a bit of a jam right now because they don't have the payroll to go out and bring in a rental player like teams such as the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox.
He feels that general managers of small market teams have a tendency to be "trigger shy" at the deadline because they don't want to risk trading away a future star.
A former Major League pitcher himself, Jim also weighs in on the Pirates' staff and the mentality of a pitcher that isn't getting much help from his offense. And of course, he gives his thoughts on the controversial ending to Tuesday night's game and the idea of instant replay in baseball, as well.
