2 Teens Robbed At Century III Mall

WEST MIFFLIN (KDKA) -- Two teenagers say they were robbed Friday inside Century III Mall in West Mifflin.

Tywann Smith, 14, and 16-year-old Kevin Allen had just bought some shoes and say they were followed by a group of five guys who may have seen they had cash.

They say the robbers surrounded them on the escalator and one demanded money. At first they thought it was a joke, until Smith says one guy jammed a gun into his side and threatened him.

Both of the teens handed over their cash. Allen lost $110, and Smith lost $97. The robbers ran off.

West Mifflin police say they're looking at security video and do have a lead in the case.

Allen's mom, Tommie Cash, says this was the first time she let her son go to the mall on his own. She says he worked this summer collecting garbage and had gone to the mall to buy school clothes with the money he made.

She's glad they weren't hurt and says their lives are worth so much more than $110.

A spokesperson for Simon Property Group, which owns the mall, says the matter is being handled by West Mifflin Police and that the organization's No. 1 priority is the safety of customers and employees.
