PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — One mother gave the gift of hope this week.

April Kalic, of O’Hara Township, donated $12,000 to the Children’s Home of Pittsburgh and Lemieux Family Center.

She made the donation in memory of her 6-year-old daughter, Madison, who died of a rare neurological disorder.

Kalic said she hopes her donation creates security for families in need.

“You see other families in the hospital and you see the pain in their face,” she said. “You want to be able to pay back and make a difference in their lives.”

Her contributions will support families with children in the pediatric specialty hospital.
