Carjacking Suspect Claims Actions Were Part Of 'Batman' Filming
SHADYSIDE (KDKA) – Filming for the new "Batman" movie began this week in Pittsburgh. While the script calls for many action sequences, it likely doesn't call for actors to carjack unsuspecting police officers.
According to police, 21-year-old Micah Calamosca attempted to carjack a plainclothes officer in Shadyside Saturday night and claimed it was part of the filming of "Batman."
Officer Robert DiGiacomo was parked near the intersection of Walnut and Ivy Streets around 7:09 p.m. He was in the area looking for a person suspected of an assault on Walnut Street.
At that time, Calamosca climbed into the car and told the officer to get out. The officer got out of the vehicle, pulled out his service weapon and ordered Calamosca out of the vehicle.
"Their assailant happened to be walking down the street and tried to get into a parked and running car with someone in it," witness Paul Connelly said.
"What he didn't realize is this was the undercover policemen that were here to keep an eye on him. Well, immediately he found out who they were. So, apparently the cop got out of the car and there were three police cars here immediately. These guys were here quick. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. This fellow was down."
An off-duty officer from Virginia Beach saw what was going on and helped to arrest Calamosca.
Calamosca told the Officer DiGiacomo that he was trying to take the vehicle because the "Batman" script called for it.
He was charged with robbery of a motor vehicle and was placed in the Allegheny County Jail on $5,000 bond.
