Driver Injured When Car Crashes Into House

FAWN TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- One person was injured after a car crashed into a house early this morning in Fawn Township.

The accident happened just before 1 a.m. along Millerstown Road.

Harry Grunden told KDKA-TV's Ross Guidotti that he was in bed when he heard the screeching wheels and a "big crash." When he went downstairs to investigate, he found a gaping hole in the living room of his rental home.

The crash nearly took out the gas meter on the side of the house.

No one in the home was injured; but the 21-year-old driver of the car was taken to Allegheny General Hospital with minor injuries.

The home's owner, Donald "Pook" Porter, said he has seen cars knock over mailboxes in the past, but this is the first time he can recall a vehicle slamming into a house on the street.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, but police say speed may have played a role in the crash. Investigators are also trying to determine if alcohol may have been involved.
